1) Here are the brackets for my press I made myself

All welded and drilled

2) I put the brackets aside and worked on my heat box

Here is my heat box first

I then put some weather stripping where the lid sits

Then I installed a plug end on my power cord that lead out of my heat box

   http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa396/NRootski/Copy2ofP1110060.jpg

Then I attached that cord ran the cord out of the box

Here is my finished wiring job

Next I started to line my box with aluminum foil and tape

   http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa396/NRootski/P1110072.jpg

    http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa396/NRootski/P1110071.jpg

Now here I go on my riser

I all ready glued it up but here it is before I plan it down to dimensions

   http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa396/NRootski/P1110065.jpg

It made out of 2 pieces dark walnut and a strip of cherry, some lighter walnut, another strip of cherry, and two more pieces dark walnut

And here is it after planned out

   http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa396/NRootski/P1110068.jpg

   http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa396/NRootski/P1110070.jpg

I'm going to make it 19'' riser but I left an inch on either side for now

   http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa396/NRootski/P1110069.jpg

Can anybody help me with making my riser like this?

   http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa396/NRootski/Riser6.jpg

I'd like to do that with 2 strips of cherry

Will put more photos up tommorow might start making my press or work on my riser.

Once again any tips, pointers, suggestions, anything will be very helpful for me. Thanks
Rudz

I can see this is going to be a good one. I can see lots of craftsmanship already. No, you don't have to vent the heat box, in fact I wouldn't. As for the riser cuts I have never done that, but think some sort of swing jig on the band saw would do that. KennyM does those all the time. I kind of want to know myself. Good luck

I agree, lot's of detail already which is very helpful.  I'd also like to learn how to make some nice accent stripes like that.

Thanks for the complements, I'm really excited to see the finished product. So glad my teacher is letting me make one in wood shop.

Excellent and I am looking forward to the rest of the build.

A swing jib will help you with those cuts, but you can also do it by hand fitting the pieces together.  It will take some fine tuning and more time, but I have done several by hand it it works fine.  Cut and sand your first arc piece, then trace it on, cut and sand until it fits perfectly with the lamination spacers in between the two pieces.

One other note, welding on the large single nut on the other side of your form brackets will help (as you wont have to mess with a wrench during the glue up)

Now, I may be completely off base with this suggestion, and if I am, hopefully some of the more experienced members will set me straight.

I made a form once with the double bolts on one half of the form and a single bolt on the other half like your brackets indicate.  That form was just not solid.  The half with the single bolt allowed the two form halves to shift quite a little bit.  I took one bow off it but when the hose was inflating, the two halves were squirming around. The form was for a flat long bow so there was no limb shape to help with alignment.

Still have that form and will use it again but do intend to put an additional bolts in the brackets.

The only thing I would be worried about are the plastic boxes and lights. If you use 150 or 200 watt bulbs, the plastic might melt. I like to use metal boxes and porcelean keyless lights. I'm a electrician so I worry about those things. I put my boxes on the outside of my heat box with only the light fixture in the box. Don

You plastic fixtures WILL melt, they did on my box using 150w bulbs.  They smoke an char and eventually the bulb starts to fall out.  Replace those with porcelain ones right away.  I thought I was going to burn my shop down with all the smoke rolling out.  Besides that, looks awesome.  Glad I am not the only one that wires stuff up with extension cord.
