I have actually shot all 3 shafts, aluminum, carbon, and woodies. All 3 shoot well from the right bow, but I kinda lost my love for woods at the moment and I don't have the right spine aluminums so it's carbons for now. I just got these CX Predators .500 spine with 200gr. up front 100gr. brass insert with 100gr. point. They seem to be very close to what I need right now. I've still got some tweaking to do, but I need a day when the wind isn't blowing 50 mph so I can shoot further than 10 steps inside my garage. I won't be able to see much by way of poor arrow flight until I can back up to about 20 yards.

Hey Chris what is the layout of this bow. I just made a post on a layout and love this one. I have no idea how to make a handle section like this and I would like to start with the billets you got me. Thanks guy you kicked some serious $@% on this one.

I just glued about a 3/4" thick piece of red oak to the belly side for the handle section about 6" or so will be long enough depending on how long you want your grip to be. The two osage pieces I spliced together were too thin to make a handle portion out of so I had to do something.

Most of my bows are just a straight taper from about 1 1/4" at the handle and fades, down to about 1/2" or 3/4" at the tips depending on how skinny I want the tips to be. That seems to work for me, and I don't have any set plan to shaping the handle or riser, no templates that I go by I guess is what I mean. Just whatever strikes me at the time is what I go with, I kinda like this one though so I may trace a template off of it?

I am thinking that the small billets that you sent me will need some sort of the same addition to the belly for the handle. I am thinking of using a piece of cocobola for that and the tip overlays... Whatcha think???

Those should have been plenty thick to leave enough osage for a handle, unless you just want a contrasting color?
I'd go with a dark wood for contrast with the yellow/orange of osage, I've found that just about any darker color looks good with osage.

Same with tips, I've used rosewood and it looks great with osage.

Thanks Chris I guess I am still confused on the whole billet splicing thing... When I watched Gary Davis do it on the Rattle Stick DVD it showed that he made the ends to be spliced into a rectangle with a flat bottom. The billets seem thinner than the ones he worked.
I am going to start a post to see if there is any splice-a-longs... I also thought of an african blackwood too
