Need arrows for my new trade-bow
« on: May 07, 2011, 06:48:00 PM »
I was soooo lucky in the trade, receiving an awesome takedown, 3 piece recurve.  Most of the arrows I have are ragged out and need replaced, so I want to get something that will work well for this bow.  The ones I have now are 2219's, with 4" vanes.

What do I need to get for a 30" draw @ 50lbs.  What about grain weight for field points?

Thanks!!!
Brad

Any good supplier of wood arrows will be able to suggest what you need for your draw length and weight.  I personally use Alaska Bowhunting's Grizzly Sticks carbon shafting.  The Sitka shafts fly well out of all my bows from 45# to 60#.  All I have to do is add or subtract point weight to tune them in.  They are tough, but a bit pricey though......Dan

Looking for some standard aluminum shafts until I get a little better with this thing.

You dang sure don't need 2219's, that's a bolt kinda like shooting rerod or fiberglass.

2016, 2018, or any other shaft in the .500 spine category will work fine, then experiment with point wt. to get it tuned right.

Use stu's calculator to give you an idea of what shaft will work with what wt. point in your arrow length/draw length and bow weight.
It's a whole lot cheaper than wasting money on arrow shafts that won't work.

one thing that i bought that has helped me quite a bit is a field point test kit. you can get them at 3 rivers archery. they come in screw in points as well as glue on in both 5/16 and 11/32. don

I think that bow is 53# @ 30" and it is cut to center.  I would try a 2117 full length (32") with 125 up front.  If that is too stiff try upping the point weight.

If it is initially too weak, try shortening it up a bit and keeping the 125 up front. You wont have too much arrow to work with with your long arms, but I think a 2117 should be close.
