4 lam bow?

With all parallel laminations of 1/8" thick would hickory over power the osage if I did a hickory backed, osage lam, hickory lam, and osage belly?  Do you think that would be to much hickory for the osage?

Would you say this is an over kill for a bow width at the fades of 1 3/8 tapered down to 3/8 tips and 66" long NTN?

Yes, way over kill! Even with three 1/8th lams, it would be  stout. When gluing lams together, those glue joints make the lam's a bow...

OK....then I think I will go with one hickory backing, and two osage lams for the first one to try.  This will be glued up with 2 1/2 inches of reflex, and a 12 in handle.  So we shall see.

Keep your hickory backing 1/8" or slightly less. If you find you are taking too much off the belly while tillering you can reduce the hickory backing too while tillering.

Well I did the glue up with just 3 lams, so I will see in the morning what I have.  The glue up went great, showing some great glue lines, now for the wait

yeah even 3/8 will probably be more than youre lookin for. you'll know if it overkill if you tiller through the layer.

Well sasquatch's kid got a bow.  I do not think the bow would have come close to 30 lbs.  I could floor tiller it to 28" draw.  But here is the bow coming off the form

I did not loose any of the reflex on the glue up and the glue lines are much better than I expected and I am very pleased with them.
 

So for my saving the bow attempt, I took and cut a concave arch from the 4" mark on my handles to the fades, got the squared up and then glued another lam onto the belly and over the handle.  This should also give me better assurance of the handl popping off.

Then unglued side
 
And both lams glued down
