last bow before Afghanistan
« on: June 03, 2011, 08:28:00 PM »
This is a Bamboo backed bamboo. It has a Zebra riser with a maple/cherry/maple accent. The accent is a nice 1/4 arc, and was my first attempt at something other than just a straight line stack. This bow was originally going to be mine, but a buddy of mine had promised a bow to a friend of his and put me on the hook to build it for him. I was getting ready to leave for deployment, and didn't have time to build another bow so I just finished this one for his friend.  It was orignally 68" and had ungodly pull...but the new owner is much smaller and starting out so it became 64" ttt, and 30lbs@22". It is 1.5" at the fades, tapers to .5" and has a 14" riser. The tips are double knocked Ipe and Maple. The shelf is radiused and cut 1/8 from center, and about 1" above center. I covered it in the smooth side of buckskin, quiet and looks good.  I finished it in 8 coats of gloss Deft, with 0000 steel wool between.

This was my first all bamboo (minus the riser), and was a lot of fun to make. It is the first bow off my new form that is pretty aggresive R/D. It shoots very smooth and fast, no hand shock. I will definately be making more, when I get back.

I am at training now, and will be in Afghanistan pretty soon. I will follow the "gang" ofcourse, and hope to get ahold some mulberry over there, but this is the last bow I can post for a while.

He who looketh on a bow to lust after it has already bow-dultery in his heart.  I feel so ashamed!!  Nice one, a real beauty.     :notworthy:
Haven't gotten into the r/d business yet, but that's a real tempter.  Good luck over their in the M-E.  We too appreciate your service.

Nice looking bow Loren.  Good luck and God Speed on your tour.  My next door neighbor gets home from his second tour tonight and we'll raise a glass to your safe deployment.  Thanks for what you do for our great country!

Thanks all for the kind words and wishes.

I don't get that long online after training, so I check FB, see if the wife left a message, and then go straight to check out the new posts here.  I love following each new build along, or just seeing pictures of all ya'lls talent and skill. Truly a great site and bunch of folks.
