Birch self bow?

I have a friend who gave me a nice Birch stave.Its ben drying sence 1997.Ive never messed with birch before.He says he has made some self bows out of birch in the past.Any tips,suggestions,do's or dont's?

Thats what I had in mined Pat.Maby some backing of some type that would not overpower the Birch.

I met Paul Comstock the other day while I was in Delaware. He would probably recommend make it 66 inches long and 2 inches wide to mid limb.
