my new bow
« on: July 01, 2011, 03:31:00 AM »
hi guys.
i need some help here. i have build a new ELB for me but i need to ask some questions. before here is the specs of the bow.
from bottom to top:
8 mm of hornbeam
3 mm of hornbeam
1 layer of drywall tape (sheetrock tape)
1 layer of denim
total length is 190 cm. from nock to nock.
i did not measure the draw weigth yet.
i have used a gelatin glue and rigth now bow is working good.
the questions:
1. is it too long?
2. if so, if i shorten a bit how much do you think from each limb?
3. do you think if bow can be broken when (or if) i shorten it?
4. more importantly; if i shorten it, do you think it will increase draw weigth?

thanks.

You will increase draw weight by shortening 4-6 pounds for 2" that would be 1" on each limb tip. You may have to re-adjust the tiller if you shorten it because it will put more stress on the entire limb, but there's not always a need to retiller. You'll just have to take a look at the full draw profile after you nip an inch off each limb, especially watch the fades. Course on an ELB there's not much of a fade so you will probably be fine and just gain draw weight.
