First Osage tiller check (Finished)

This is my 5th bow and my first osage ,hows the tiller look? 64"ntn 1 1/4" wide at the fades.55@27

Looks good to me, nice and even. that being said looks to be stiff in the first half, especially the top limb. Could get the area from the fade to the midlimb doing a bit more of the work. jmho and hopefully more experienced bowyers will chime in and tell me I'm right or i don't have a clue    Either way it looks real good and i hope it lasts you a long time and many arrows.

Yea I thought it maybe a tad stiff in the upper fade . I have to do the final sanding and I may hit it there a bit. Thanks

Is razorback in reference to Arkansas Razorbacks? If so, hoping the "mighty" Vols are indeed mighty when we meet you this season or I could have a loooong day.

Looks pretty dang close to me David, I'd shoot it some and see how it feels and shoots before I did anymore scraping on it, especially if I was at my target weight. There ain't nothing wrong with that tiller just like it is.....IF it shoots good, if not then you might need some tweaking.

I took the liberty of borrowing your picture and adding a red circle to it. This always helps me when I'm tillering a bow. It's really hard for the eyes to see problem areas without something else of a known shape or inverted color to help see the differences between the two. A big opaque circle in the middle helps me see my problem areas better than anything else I've tried and it works well for me.

After doing this I have to admit Razorback was right, good eye Razor!

It's still a nice looking tiller and you can work on that area that's flat if you want, or leave it like it is and I'm sure you'll still be fine.

@Don, sorry to dissapoint you but razorback has nothing to do with Arkansas. I'm Australian, living here for the last 20 yrs, and big ugly wild pigs are called Razorbacks in Australia. I believe some refer to them the same way over here. Well I saw a show back home, years ago, where a father and son hunted pigs with recurves. Ever since I have wanted to get one with a bow, thus the name.

I took a few scrapes on it and it looks like it may have helped. I think I will shoot it some more before I put the finish on.

Looken even better. It is best to shoot the bow before finishing. Shooting the bow will put some stress on the limbs. Then re-check your tiller and if all is ok, finish her.

Yep, I'd leave it alone at this point, that tiller looks killer!

Maybe its the angle in which you are holding the bow, but the lower limb seems to be bending more then the upper. I might be tempted to turn it around and make the the bottom limb the upper and see how it shoots. Nice bow- really like it.
