Compromised Glue Up?
« on: August 24, 2011, 12:39:00 PM »
One issue I noticed the day after the late night gluing up session is that I mistakenly used too much B instead of too much A of the Smooth On.  It did not set up hard but the left over on the paper plate was more rubbery.  That doesn't bother me on the riser overlay but the tip overlays have me scratching my head.  Though the glue is not super hard is seems to be very TOUGH.  I don't think it will let go but I wish I would have taken a few extra seconds to look at which container I was dipping from.
Anyone ever pull a screw up like this?

Some mix by weight. I have only mixed equal volumes. I buy 3oz plastic bathroom cups and fill to top with each part. and if I am mixing smaller ammounts I cut the cups down with scissors or mark cups with a Sharpie pen.

Smooth-On is pretty gooey for syringes.

I use the 3oz cups as well.  I had a riser that I glued up and it dried slow.  I assume I mixed wrong but it did  eventually harden and is holding with no issues so far.

If I slow down a bit its easy to mix correctly but it seems I'm gluing up when I have 4 other places I should be or its late.  Such is life with family, work, and hunting.

The fault was mine as I planned on mixing it stronger than 50/50 as I wasn't going to use the hot box to set the overlays up on this project.  My problem was that I glumped too much of B than the A.  Too late and too tired.  I think it will be fine, though.  As I said it is still tough.
