Finished sinew/snakeskin backed ash self bow
« on: August 27, 2011, 11:12:00 AM »
A buddy of mine (minuteman) Chris Parker from Indiana left this Ash stave in my Tipi accidently at Mojam years ago. He said to go ahead and finish it out and see what I get.

He had heated the tips and put a little static curve in them and had it ruffed out to about 100# bow so I can't say I did all the work, There was a lot of tillering to be done with this bow.

I wanted a dark bow for doing some ground and blind hunting for turkeys this year so I put some sinew on it covered it with some old left over side trimings from a very large Texas rattler and stained it black.

Hits hard and came out 50#@28 58" Really like how it's shoots.

Nice bow. Clean lines and good tiller!  Well done.
Haven't heard from Chris in a long time. He used to be on PA a lot and I got to meet him at the Tenn. Classic a few years ago. Tell him hi for me when you see him next.

Thats a sharp profile, nice. How many layers of sinew did you put one her? What kind of glue did you go with?

crgibson, This stave came from a split log stave and it does have a flat belly.

Paul its keeping me plenty busy and I'm having a lot of fun building them so yeah it's good therapy for sure  :D

Pearl Drums, It has two layers of sinew because that is all I had at the time and I did use hide glue.

Hey Brett check out that flat elbow thats as far as I can go   :biglaugh:  I'm just glad to finally be pulling some bows to full draw it's been 4 months since surgery.

I will be ready for opening day.  :jumper:

Thanks for looking guys and the nice comments  :)
