Limb wood core question ...
« on: August 27, 2011, 09:38:00 PM »
Relative to longbows, does it make that much difference in "feel" with limb cores made of cedar vs yew. I am talking working lams here. I know cedar can be quite smappy. I am jsut wondering not so much in performance but in the smoothness if there is much of a difference between the two woods as a limb lamimation.

I'm wondering what cedar you're talking about.  I've made a few bows using Eastern Red Cedar, which is actually juniper.   It's a lot lighter than yew and seems to make a faster bow.   Yew can give a nice smooth draw.  I like a little more taper on it due to the weight.   Remember, I build lighter bows, though.   If you're looking for input on higher weights, look to guys who build above 45 to 50.   Like the advertisers say, "Individual results may vary..."
