if it was Missouri osage, I'd say great find. Anything else is inferior.   :D

I cut one about that big July 2nd. As I was finishing the felling cut at the butt of the tree, a "dead" limb fell and hit me across the head! I hit the ground before the tree did...  
 
Karrow, look along old fence lines. Some of the guys at my deer club hunt a lease in southeast Kansas also. While he was showing off trail camera pics, I noticed round objects on the ground in the background. I yelled, "What's that?"
Heck, it was hedge apples. The guy said they were all over the place on their lease up there!

Anyone notice my osage walking stick? I took a limb and chased a ring all the way around to make the stick. It is hard, strong for its size, light weight and does a great job poking at things and swating spider webs out of the way as you walk through the woods. I made this years ago and I couldn't live without it now.
Everyone should own one!

Joe, I found a guy that has a row osage trees about 250 yards long and the majority look very much like the one in the pic.  Problem is he won't let me cut any.  He did let me get a few blowdowns though, most of it was wormy and full of checks, but did get a few chracter staves out of it.  Still working on him for a good tree.

Joe, already tried that, but he don't hunt or have an interest in archery.  I'll keep trying after I work through the pile of windfalls he gave me, I thought I might try to make some tool handles for him and possibly a picture frame from some of the wormy stuff..... .Dan

Nice tree.  I bet that thing has good growth rings.  It doesn't look very old just judging by the look of the bark.  I would be cutting that thing right now.

Good looking tree. I got distracted the other day at work when I saw this little osage tree growin in a fencerow. We were workin on some apartments right in the middle of town when I saw it and I asked the apartment mananger if I could cut it down and surprisingly she said yes. Its a little over 80" long and about 5" diameter with some really nice rings.

I just met a old time selfbow maker ..that has stopped making bows because of health. He offered me all his osage staves for $10.00 a piece. Most "PRIME" !!!Theres a bunch. All well stored and all 15 to 20 years dry. (some more)... "Jackpot"

I was getting geared up to go out and miss a few shots on wily whitetails and now you have me thinking about REALLY GOOD osage.  Thanks a lot.

Who would have thought i would have to fight my hunting (close misses) and bow building addictions at the same time!
