First Bow Almost Done
« on: September 16, 2011, 06:20:00 PM »
Well it's been a long road toward completing my first bow but the finish line is in sight.  In the last six months I've dealt with problems at work, two little boys who need their father's attention more than anything, and a car accident that put my right shoulder out of commission for a few weeks.  All the while my bow waited patiently for my return.  She rewarded me with an inner serenity that I've never known before.  That being said, here she is.

I followed the very detailed build-along on poorfolkbows and went with a red oak board bow.  I backed it with drywall tape (which I will cover up with something more attractive at some point). I got a little carried away with the tillering so it's only pulling 35# @ 28".  But since it's for my dad and he only does target practice in the backyard, I think he'll be pleased with that weight.  This afternoon I roughed out the handle and took a few shots. She throws arrows pretty nice.

At full brace.

At 18"

At 28" (full draw)

The glamour shot!

Better than my first bow. I never could get a board bow to hold together long enough to take a picture. Start gathering some real staves soon and the real fun begins! Nice job.

Thanks for all the kind words guys. I've learned a lot while working on this bow and from following all the great advice found on this forum.  I can't wait to start my next one - which we be all mine.

Now a full draw pic only counts if someone is drawing it. Nice bow though.
