bow to brace height
« on: September 24, 2011, 07:48:00 PM »
Hello everyone,

I was hoping you all could give some advice.  I am tillering my selfbow and have my bow bending very well on the tillering stick.  Running a second string under the long string to measure brace height and I  have a brace height of about 7 1/4 inches from the back of the bow handle.  I tried to brace the bow and I can brace to about 3 inches of brace height, but when I try to brace it more with the bow stringer I just can't seem to brace the bow to my intended brace height.  Am I being pansy or to careful?  Do I need to take more wood off? Any comments would be appreciated.

Is it too strong still? if so leave it at 3" of brace height and contimue tillering. You don't need to get to the ultimate brace height until you begin shooting it.

I think it might be still to strong.  That's why I can't brace it.  I can't bend it enough with the bow stringer to get the loop into the string grooves.

Sounds like it's too strong yet? Have you pulled it on the scale to see if your at your target wt. yet? Don't try to pull it past your target wt. or your target draw length or you'll run the risk of limb failure. Slow and steady wins the race.

Pics would be helpful.
