self bows...bbo's and new string materials

I am curious how many are shooting a ff/dyna string out of a self or bbo.   And the tips.  Do you beef them up?  Leave them thicker?  Add antler/horn overlays.  

can an all woodie handle a new string?  Skinny string with padded loops?   Can a bbo with no antler or wood tips, ala Schulz style?  if I am going this route, should I add a antler/horn over the wood tip overlays or is the wood overlays enough?  

I remember Dean talking about the severe string angle on that sexy recurve he builds (stunning is more like it!) needing horn overlays.   At what point is these overlays required?

I am headed out to the geerage to start making dust this morning.   BBO's with wood tips.  

 The thought crossed my mind...what do other people do.  Hopefully I posed that question right.   Looking for experience, both good and bad on the subject of wood bows and string materials.  Self, backed, and laminated bows.

I use all D10, either 10 or 12 strands on every bow I build. Some have overlays, some have padded loops. I have some 12 stranders with no padding or overlays and they work and look just fine. It will take an AWFUL lot of shots to wear any type of groove into a plain wood tip, especially osage, elm or hickory.

Mud, instead of sending them maybe I'll have to just stop by lol.  I am thinking an anchor steelie trip maybe next week.  Still trying to get run number and water condition reports.  Difficult stuff 10 hours away.   I am on weekend nights also for the rest of this month and heading to pa the 18th (if you need/want anything brought back let me know).

The bows I am working on have wood tip overlays already installed.   Got one ready for the long string.

I use skinny FF/D97 strings, as low as 6 strands, with padded loops on my selfbows and natural laminated bows.  

I've used them for years with no ill effect.  The tips are usually re-enforced with wood and I don't leave them bulky.  I like my tips graceful.

I've never worried about compatibility, they're compatible.
