Fresh cut Osage!
« on: October 07, 2011, 03:05:00 PM »
I'm hunting with some friends this weekend and will be able to cut some Osage from my buddies farm!
Now what?  Should I seal the ends immediately?  I was planning to wait till I get home then split it in half at least and then seal the ends- then store in the dark dry basement for 2 years.
Sound ok or what?
Thanks
TIM B

Seal the ends as soon as the tree hits the ground, and then seal them again when you get it home.  If you remove the bark and sapwood, seal the backs too.  Good luck with the osage harvest.  Post some pics of your haul.

Your getting me all excited about my upcoming osage harvest, down in Clints neighborhood. Thats where the thick ringed, dark stuff grows! Right pal?

Have fun with your hunt and harvest Tim.

There are a few osage trees around here with thick rings.  I don't plan on cutting any more for quite a few years though.  :bigsmyl:

Man, I sure wish some of that Osage grew around these parts...   :)

No kidding. I wish I could get my hands on a decent stave for less than an arm and leg.

Drive out to MOJAM in July.
Plenty osage, no arms or legs needed...   :)

Shipping is the great equalizer in osage stave commerce. It kills ya'. Billets arent so bad, but not all builders are equipped to splice.
