Finding a used bandsaw
« on: October 15, 2011, 09:48:00 AM »
Lots of talk about finding a good used bandsaw on this section. There is a pretty easy way to see what is listed on craigslist in your your area that I suspect most know about but some may not.

There is a search engine called search tempest that will do the looking for you on craigslist.

Type in what you are looking for, how many miles from your house you are willing to go to pick it up and start the search.

I looked for a not to computer savvy friend and found a bunch of the good, older, American made Craftsman bandsaws within 50 miles from his house with the average price being around $75.

Beware of this search engine! It is pretty addictive, especially if you can think of any tool you really want for your shop.

I plan to make a Gizmo how to video and post it on Utube to clear up some of the confusion on how to make and use one. Pretty simple tool but but it's use confuses some folk.

Check out this bandsaw.  A 100 year old 36" Crescent for $600.  If only I had the money and shop space.

Another way is to search using google, etc.. by "bandsaw site:craigslist.org" and limit results by hrs, days, etc... I didn't know this until brother told me, maybe everyone else does already.

Two good woodworking forums with active classifieds, etc... are woodnet.net and sawmillcreek.org.
LH Chek-Mate Kings Pawn 54@30 64"
LH Great Plains Long Curve 47@28 60"
LH Wing Archery Falcon 45@28 62"
My draw length is 29.5"

It works!  I found a super deal on a bandsaw on Craigslist.  I just picked it up this morning for $100.  Not bad for a saw that looks and runs like brand new.
