That is some sweet looking lumber you got there Chisler. Did you cut the tree yourself or do you have a supplier for the starting pieces.

Razorback- that tree came from a neighborhood, from a yard in suburban Pittsburgh.  I know someone that had several large osage trees in their yard so I told them I would like to have some if they ever had it cut down.  Two years ago they had to have one taken down and they called me.  I picked two 8 foot logs, one was 32" at the but end the other was 30", plus a few 4 foot chunks.  Was able to get a guy to load it on a flat bed and haul it to a local sawmill.   So I have a good supply - life time supply for a couple bowyers...

Here's the short stack:
I stickered and stacked it in my dry basement, sprayed some panther piss around the lowest layer to keep the spiders out.  Such a big old tree (85 yrs) it has some cracks and splits and a few voids, but there's enough there that it's easy to find the good stuff.  End up with a lot of handle material.

Ive always wanted to take one of my logs to a sawmill, but just cant cut up selfbow wood.

Today when I got home, there was a package on the patio from some guy in Missouri. Opened it up and out popped an awesome selfbow in the raw form of two nice Osage billets. Good trade David.

Stiks, don't make me take a road trip to Indiana and thump ya a good one son:)

Tonight, I ground off the boo that split off the top limb of my latest BBO. Cut out another piece of boo and have it almost ready to glue on the bow. Gotta try to save this fine piece of Osage from the wood burner:)

That just ain't right; those of us who live in bow deserts are going to become resentful and have bad karma for the upcoming bow season… Not that I believe in anything like Karma….. just sayin…….it just ain’t right to make so many envious.   ;)

Today,  I took two youth longbows outta the forms, shaped, sanded, finished and made strings for them, and got them off in the mail a few minutes before the post office closed.  The last two of the year for me.  They were for the Dec Vermonster 13 youth bow program. Made supper, and relaxed and had a drink or two (I lost count) I'm off until the new year.

Oh, I also started two new forms, for two new potential recurve designs I'll debut for 2012, if the prototypes don't suck.

I chased a sapwood ring down on a stave ive got. I think i need to make another sapwood osage bow. And a recurve and a takedown...

Well after reading hera's build alongs I decided to go to Home Depot and buy some hand tools and stop procrastinating on building bows. I know hera makes it look easy to do with hand tools but with enough practice I think I can do it too. So I'm going to finish my board bow with some hand tools and probably start a new thread with tons of questions. After reading the Bench for awhile I just couldn't take it anymore. My wife will understand right?      :help:        :campfire:

Today, since I'm on vacation now, I tore apart my step son's steering column on his F-150 and replaced the busted shift selecter tube. Since they are a discontinued part I had to go to the wreckin' yard and pull on outta a truck there.
