Actually this past weekend...

I "Guided" my two brothers, on two different occasions, to some carp.  Each brother shot and retrieved two carp...their first bow carp!  I skinned them and added them to my first bow shot carp.  I want to skin a bow using part of each of our fist bow carp.  I "hand-fed" the carp meat to a mink that lives in our dock…pretty cool…a bit too small for a quiver though.

Chased a ring on my osage billets.  My friend helped me surgically band saw a center cut from a fat osage stave.  We angled the cut around the handle section of the outer stave which left a pair of billets.  I never spliced before so this will be good practice on wood that might have been wasted.

I gifted a rock sling to a young kid of a guy I’m working with while out of town for the summer.  Hope he doesn't break a window …or his skull!  I found a great sling design if anyone is interested.

My 8 yr old son caught his first Muskie (he also accidentally caught his first sturgeon last week).  Needless to say, he is very happy…now he has set his goal to hook the prehistoric Bowfin!

My kids have been nurturing a young Common Tern with a damaged wing since Thursday.  The Tern had a tag...part of a “Save The River” project up here on the St. Lawrence River.  My wife and kids will be traveling 2 hours to civilization to get x-rays of the Tern before dropping it off at a wildlife rehabilitation center in the Thousand Islands area.  A long trip for helping the Tern but I’m staying out of that one.

Needless to say, I'm glad to be a work today to rest up!

Have a great day!

Dino

PS.  Please see my upcoming post regarding some carp skin questions I have.  Thanks!

Dino, be careful when you land that bowfin! They have rows of teeth in their mouths. They also put up a heck of a fight.   :D  They grow pretty big too - you might want to save a skin from one.

This morning I started the first day of summer school. Actually, its a remediation class for students who didn't score proficient or advanced on the biology EOC (end of coarse) exam. Man! Those kids did not want to be there!

After lunch I cleaned up a bamboo backed osage salvage bow I've worked on off and on. Put the bow on the tiller tree and pulled it to 50 lbs. using a long string. Wednesday I plan to shorten the string to a low brace and tiller more.

Well today marked 19 years of being married to my wife. We celebrated it at our pond. Nothing finer than a great wife that loves the outdoors:)

Congrats Roy!

Today I put a handle wrap on a bow I'm finishing.i still need to as leather for a strike plate and a rest turn it will be finished. Unless I decide to redo the handle because I'm not to happy with this one.

Congratulations Roy, 2X what Kenny said.

Today I shipped my trade bow.  I sprayed it last Wednesday but today was the first time I was near a post office that was open.
The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.

Got a great deal on some exotic wood.

I think this cocobolo and canary wood combination may be my next personal bow

Today I paper tuned in 6 cedar arrows for the bow Kenny made me. The arrows were showing weak so I cut off a half inch 3 times before I got em tuned in. After the last cut, I also went from a 125 grain tip to a 100 grain tip. Shooten bullet holes now at 5 yards. Life is good:)
