Geeze Roy, it couldn't have been too hard to get that buck. Those antlers would have had him anchored pretty well in one place.

Haven't much on this one but i had a pretty good day:

Early morning i delivered a sweet lil character hackberry bow to my local wood patron (let me harvest a tree off his land).  He's a wheelie bow guy, but was warming up to the idea.  By the time he took a few shots he was a stone cold convert!  He was actually giggling like a 10 yr old who just got his first bb gun.  Every shot sunk that hook deeper and deeper, and he went from "sure i'll take it, it'll be a fun toy" to "I know what i'm hunt'n with this season!!"  My head is pretty swollen for a while   :D

The best part of my day was taking my 9yr old girl on her first "daddy date."  She was like a kid in the candy store at... guess where?  CABELAS!  I took her cuz i knew she'd love the huge fish tank, but our 10 minute tank viewing turned into an hour wandering the store.  She wants to go hunting now.  Yet another reason to smile big for a good while  :D

Last night I continued to shape another osage bow and also Chris started his first friction fire using a bow drill.

The hardest part Roy is making the coal turn to fire. Practice makes perfect. I still carry a bic in every article of hunting and camping gear.

LOL...........

Did I tell yunzs that Keenan sent me a Yew Stave last week? Just an awesome piece of wood. This will be a first for me working with Yew. So I may be asking a lot of questions here.

Perty cool Roy. Can't wait to see that take shape. Just be careful. Yew gives some folks problems. My lungs can't handle it.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of watching my son get his first game bird with shotgun...I know its not a bow but sharing those times with your kids is what the outdoors is all about.  I did clean a rod turner off my bench so I could start laying out a bamboo backed osage stick soon.
I humbly follow in the learned footsteps of those who precede me.

Well crap happens I guess. I had that purty BBO to 21 inches on the tree tonight, looking O so nice. Then the Devil played a trick on me. The top limb exploded about 10 inches from the tip. All I could do was smile... No sense getting all bent out of shape about it. Sorry Pearly Boy, I'll start another one for ya son.

I also did some heat treatment on one limb of that Yew Stave to get her straighter before I get too serious with it. Just left her clamped for the night. Can't wait to see it in the morning.

Pictures are cell phone pictures so not so clear.

Is that the same one that lifted the splinter Roy? Either way it still sucks when that happens.
