Today we had a bit of a scare. I'm on vacation for the week, so I was at home with our one-year-old. My wife had our other son with her at the daycare that we just opened. She called me, frantic, to tell me that Deputies from the department I work at had been in a vehicle pursuit on our road, and the subject had fled on foot armed with an assault rifle.
I immediately locked all of our doors, armed myself, and contacted work to see what was going on. Turned out that there was indeed an armed subject on foot less than A HALF MILE from our house.
Now, had I been alone I would have been out there helping with the search. My priority was currently upstairs asleep in his bed though, so after donning a vest just in case, I posted myself where I could see out of three windows(in the direction of the bad guy)and where I had a visual of both doors, and listened to the radio chatter.
Our guys caught him in short order, but it was a nerve wracking ordeal to say the least. All I wanted to do afterward was hug my kid. It really put things in perspective.
