Roy - Are you gonna get her dirty or is it just for show?  Looks like a fun toy.

I glued up a bow and have it in the oven - this will be my first black glass bow. I used some bamboo and black locust core with some american elm as well all wood from Troy . I also glued up a riser that I am really curious to see how it comes out...Black locust and Walnut with some stringers of Purple Heart and Bubinga. Hoping to get the hardware setup on a new form using Kenny's template. Actually I am making two forms one for a 58" bow and for the 64".

In the final finsh phase of my first black glass bow. This one is Bamboo and Black Locust core wood with American Elm and black glass, the overlays are Paduk. This one is 50# @ 28" and 62". The riser is Walnut and with Bubinga and Black Locust.

Thanks for the kind words...I was excited last night to attend a fundraiser where I donated a bow that I made for the cause. It was included in the live auction portion of the night and found a new home to the tune of $500 bucks. I took three bows and allowed the winning bidder to select an appropriate draw weight and wood preference.

I helped welcome our newest familiy members, a pair of ferrets that a friend was giving away due to they are moving, so more critters for my family zoo.

Then I spent a little time unpacking my first bow!
I bought my first, an old Darton recurve, 56", 44#@28" with green glass front and back.

She ain't perfect, she has 2 holes from where someone attached a quiver once, and a few scratchs and wear marks showing, but she is a shooter and she is mine!!!!!!!!!
Now that I finally got a bow to learn on, suppose I need to find a way to also get some arrows now   ;)

I can't wait to get out shooting her now that I am free for the summer, wish I had more time and money, archery season starts here in 10 days, kinda a rush for a roookie, may have to sit it out this year, we will see.

The wife picked this up today. Looks like I may have to go stump shooting on Sunday.

Ralph - looks like you and your little shootin' buddy are all set.  One word of caution...just be careful if you duck under a branch with that on your back.  I saw a young father with a kid backpack on at a 3D shoot once and when he went to duck under an overhanging branch, he didn't duck quite far enough and the branch poked his youngster right in the face.  The little tyke was OK, but it could have been disastrous and the father felt horrible.

As for me, I didn't do a dang thing today and won't tomorrow either.  I've got some kind of infected bursitis going on in my right elbow and can't do squat.  I'm on a heavy dose of antibiotics and still might have to get the sucker poked and drained next week once the infection clears up.  I got a friend's bow to finish and it was a beautiful evening to shoot.  This sucks.

Been slowly but surely moving stuff into the new place and enjoying the room.  Have to take it easy, been having some very worrying signs that I may be in chronic heart failure again-hoping I can rest now and preserve the hunting season.  Decided to wait until my bow is in to do any serious tramping around so I can give my heart a break.

Went out this morning while it was cool and cut down two hickory trees that I had marked for harvest last year. Took the chainsaw, 4-wheeler, my hand axe and some water.

Cut em down into 72" lengths (what was suitable for bow wood) and the rest cut up into 6" chunks of smoke-wood for my jerky.

Large log rings (the stave on the far left):

Medium Hickory End (one on far right; sorry for the wetness and hard to see rings)

Small hickory rings (the stave in the middle)

I am very eager to get these staves seasoned and make some nice hickory bows from em! BTW these are shagbark hickories.

Yep  ;)  I even attempted to take the bark off but it's stuck to the staves pretty good, so I am going to wait a few weeks and then try again with a 2lb rubber mallet.
