tonight I learned not to use a foam paint brush to mix Urac 185    :banghead:

It pretty much just falls apart before the stuff is even mixed. Oh well, at least I hadn't applied any to the bow yet.

Yes, put two coats of shellac on back and ends and plan to spray on a third, just for insurance, ran out of shellac though, need to pick up another can tomorrow.  This one is really gonna require a lot of straightening, about a quarter turn of twist, 6" or more of relex and a few knots to deal with.  But, yew is about are rare as gold in this area, so I couldn't resist a try at it....Dan

Glad to hear you made it safe brock.

Good luck Paul.  Watch the limb color close it will slowly turn a nice chocolate brown, but quickly char to black.

Dave, Cant beat tru oil.  With enough coats it looks like glass.

It might have been a bad idea to use Tru-oil. Now I don't want to let this one go!  :bigsmyl:
I think I better use it on all my bows from now on so I get used to giving them up once in a while.

Tested heat treating on some scrap wood, went ok but I changed my mind on using it on this bow. There is minimal set now, weight & tiller are good so I'm going to finish it up,

Installed buffalo horn tips & tested some stain on scrap, looked great to me.

tried to flip the tips of a hickory board bow.  Results were explosive...I got a little agressive and now I'll have to turn it into a very short bow.  I'm thinking Modoc style...

hey Dan, if that limb is still green, and you have split it you can clamp it to a caul, inducing some reflex, and taking the twist out- and it will dry like that, you do have to allow for spring back but it is very do- able.
