The right stuff?
« on: December 09, 2011, 07:09:00 PM »
I have some loctite 15 second super glue on hand and wonder if it is the right stuff for glueing limb tip overlays.  Have seen mention of the use of super glue on this forum and wonder what is the right stuff?

I use gorilla superglue for overlays but I think loctite will work too.

I use cheap super glue and it works fine. Gel works better but I have used thin too.

I think it depends on what the overlay is and what your glueing it to. I use TBIII for wood to wood and I use CA glue for bone to wood. Only had one come off after it fell off my tiller tree and whacked the shop floor hard.

Had not thought about the obvious advantages of gel.  I'll be going glass to glass or phenolic to glass on some and wood to wood on others.

Have used smooth on with good results but then there is the long wait and my "shop" (garage and patio) is very cold this time of year.  :(    I can do them at my bench in the garage, but that calls for hanging lights under them for heat overnight.  It works, but being able to do the job in 15 or 20 minutes is waaay appealing.

Thanks for the tips.  As usual this forum is a trove of quality info!
