I'll just put up a statue for the "unknown women of archery " for all those who put up with us and allow us to do what we do.Just think where we would be today if Glenn or Fred's wives said "NO you can go there this week, you have grass to mow and gutters to clean !" 'Nuff said .

Janet George would give any hunter a run for their money. She has killed lots of animals, and I dont think there is too many people with her knowledge of big game animals. She is an awesome shot with her Widow & a great person to boot. I am proud to call her a friend, although she ran circles around me in the mountains.

Doreen Wilber ! She won the Fita gold medal at the Olympics (late 60's -early 70's.)She also won many state and national archery chapionships. I think she also won the world championship.
She is from Jefferson Iowa  if I remember correctly. She was also a bowhunter!

Don't think there are many women archers around today that can come close to her.!

You brought back a memory, Kildeer.  Fern Meigs made me my first set of wooden arrows.  She designed a crest for them which she assured me was unique and had never been used for anyone else.  I still have a couple of them, and probably always will, as I don't intend to break or lose the last ones I have, so I probably won't be shooting them anymore.

Archery? Or bowhunting? It used to be that archery was a sport full of women; and that included movie stars.
I have a picture of Marilyn Monroe; where she is shooting a bow; has a quiver full of broken arrows; and the most honest smile I have ever seen on her face.
She is not the top candidate for archery; but there were and are a lot of women that shoot bows; and I just don't know how things got to where women are not leading our packs.
I have seen here so many pictures of little girls with bows and big smiles or serious concentration - that I cannot believe that women are going to let us guys get the big credits for ever   :notworthy:

Connie Renfro and Pinecone are some of the finest Trad hunters out there. Killie is a fine lady of archery and very good in the field. I think Killie would just need more hunting ops. and she would kill her share. Shawn

I know there are a lot of ladies that are/were great. But for me, my wife is number one. She won 1st place indoor and out for 5yrs or 6yrs in a row I believe.

It was a compond with sights, that she shot with fingers.

Genna Davis is a fine archer , as well as being a pretty easy on the eyes lady. She is probably better known as Stuart Little's mom!

Ill third Fern Meigs
Target archery is seeing how far away you can get and still hit the bull's eye. Bowhunting is seeing how close you can get and never miss your mark.

Didn't Ann Marsten use a bow as her talent in the Miss America contest?  In the 60's.  She was a pretty good shot and not bad on the eyes, but not as good as my wife!!!

McDave, they are treasures indeed! A unique crest is a wonderful gift, as traditional as the proprietory rights of a quill or beadworker to her designs and color combinations. Truly, a fine gift was bestowed upon you. Almost as great as being with Ms. Meigs and sharing time with her.

I would love to see the arrows.
Killdeer
Long, long afterward, in an oak I found the arrow, still unbroke;
And the song, from beginning to end, I found again in the heart of a friend.
