It's Almost Bowmakin' Season
« on: December 26, 2011, 10:10:00 PM »
I generally stay out of the shop during deer season but it ends next Sunday.  I am giddy with anticipation  :)   What shall I make?  What SHALL I make???  Hmmmm...

Here's the raw material from last year's woodcutting. Got most of it into blank form last winter and it's been hibernating just waiting to assume osage's noblest form.

Well that looks like one or two bows in there. I will get out get some cut. I talked with a lady that had a hedge in her yard she wants gone. I am going to look at it after the first and see if it will make a bow. If not I have a friend or two that will use it in their stoves.

Good luck John

Stacked firewood in the shop and ill be roughing bows, chasing rings and splitting wood for the next week or so . Work slows down this time of year. To a crawl actually, but on the bright side... It almost bow building season. Happy hunting everyone.

I'm about ready to get back at it myself. Wiuth 2 bow trades coming up plus a few promised bows I should have a busy winter. The landscape company I work for puts all of its workers on temproary(seasonal) unemployment for a few months so I'll actually get paid to build bows.

Arrows John, don't forget 'bout the arrows! With just a bow, you only got a bow. But with arrows too, you will have a bows & arrows  :readit:  .

Quite a load for the Ute John, This is my last haul. OLD logs That are talking to me bad.
PEARLIE! Close yer eyes. (I do have a Christmas present for you tho).

That is a wonderful Mullberry tree that sits in a bad spot right out side my shop door. I have a purple walk way for about 10 feet going in. The bugs, coon and birds are real bad tho. It will be removed in the spring I think.

This thread got me thinking, I need to get some bow blanks ready for my charitable donations this spring.

I store my osage under my house and it never gets below 16% MC. I better move some wood to the "on deck circle" in my shop.

Been working on a flintlock all winter. I need to put it down for a few days and work on some OSAGE.

John and Chuck you making bows by the cord now? Put a stamp on one of those logs and send it west  :)

Too many hitches with my get-along this year to hunt much....  thank goodness my bow season opened early....

Yup, John. Already started. It is not as easy as it used to be to knock off a bow. I can't do it in a day now. Little by little.  :)  Jawge
