Ooh boy!! My trade bow is tillered and sanded...and I'm above my target weight by 2 pounds!!! Just need to figure out how I should go about putting the finishing touches on the bow (stain, grip, string, arrow rest). Trying to find the right stain to keep the contrast of the white bow wood (HHB) and chestnut tip overlays. Looking at a HHB bow I saw that Pat posted, maybe I will just use a clear finish. I put a couple different stains (black walnut Danish oil, Tung oil, and a light walnut min-wax) on the belly of another HHB I was working on in parallel, as well as on some left over chestnut tip wood, laid out a couple different pieces of leather, and a few different string color combinations…I labeled each sample and left it out for my wife and two kids to give me their combination of suggestions…of course they were all different! I’m leaning toward no stain…and using several coats of Tung oil. Any suggestions?
I feel like a proud father; so far, this bow turned out better than any of my other bows! Both sad and excited to see it go!
Good luck all!
