Excellent news, Jeff!  So glad you like the bow I made for you and that it got there safely.   :)  Maybe you can post a picture or two, as I had neither the patience or time with my family's recent move...mostly I lacked the former!    :D

Some EXCELLENT bows being turned out this year, everyone.  I find myself driving home and trying to NOT look at the front porch.  I also resist the temptation to call home to my wife every hour to see if anything has come for me.  Yesterday I caved in, called home, and she said, "Yes!"  "Excellent," I said.  "I'll be right home for lunch!"  She asked if I would have enough time to install the sink over my lunch hour...turns out it was just the sink clips I ordered to install our new stainless steel kitchen sink!

A special treat from Kelly G arrived yesterday. I am the proud owner of Kelly's second shooter bow. Remember his first bow took a lovely Kansas buck last year. Especially like the handle leather taken from a combat boot. Here's the full draw pic missing from his build along posts.

Its a sweet shooter and I'm honored to own this bow. For all your hard work on this bow trade and for you service to God and county I salute you!

I can't decide if it's more difficult for my students to sit in class until noon, or for me! I hit the hall running to get home to check the mail! Nothing so far but...

Very nice bow, Shaun!

I sure am glad that we just had our boy, or I would be waiting for a bow at the mailbox when not at work.  I need a new bow to hunt with this year!

Alright I am about to go CRAZY!!!!!!
After 3 attempts with super glue (gel and liquid) and three times the back nock coming off. I went to lowes yesterday afternoon looking for some Smooth on, no luck. So I picked up some 5 min clear 2 part epoxy. Sanded both back and antler. Then degreased both and let to dry. Then mixed and apply epoxy. Layed the antler on there and wrapped in place with B50 and then clamped in place. Let dry 24 hours. Strung it up about 5 min ago and it held for a whopping 9 seconds before they came apart. After looking around the house for 5 min to find the back nock I am back to square one.

Pat,
I would try to use a 1/8 in blind pin but my tip is only 1/4 inch wide and the back nock is only 1/8 of a inch high at the tallest point.

Thanks
Boswell

Boswell...here's what I would do.  Sand your tips at a bevel on a belt sand and then add a wedge for your tip overlay.  That will create WAY more surface area to glue to, allow you to add more material back into the tips (it won't slow the bow down), and allow you to cut the groove all the way through the top of the overlay.  Here's an example I did on a recent hickory molle.  The limb shape is different than yours (trapezoidal on cross section), but the principle is the same:

Hope that helps, bud   :)

Boswell...you're relying on the glue and very little glued surface area to hold the string in place.  It's simply shearing the overlay off at the glue joint because that's precisely where the string is contacting it.  The limb itself, the overlay, or a combination of the two must be grooved to accept the string.  It really doesn't take much.  Those tips look like perfect candidates for the method I mentioned above.  I've even seen guys lop the tips off at a 45 degree angle and add their overlays.

You're so close now...just one more step and you've finished a very fine bow!   :)
