as if you couldn't guess , something went wrong. i just broke 2" of of the tip if my stave in my quest to make a recurve. i dont know what went wrong was my stave to dry ? i completely saturated 8" of the tip with olive oil and took my time heating it. i used very gentle pressure , hoping gravity would do its job, all i could hear was craaaaaaaaaaaacccckkkkk.   :banghead:    :banghead:    :banghead:

Someone's trade bow is famous!  It might be one of the bows in the picture with a bunch of 4th graders.  I'll see if I can get the press release to go along with the bow.

Kenny I hate seeing your bow...I keep shorting out my keyboard.  Supersweet and I know whoever gets it will be totally stoked to zip arrows through it.  Man I hope its me...

Goose, that's not very nice teasing like that.  :nono:  BTW, is the gnarly bow on the far right a true centre shot?
Kenny,WOW!!!! I think you should have the paramedics on hand to revive the recipient when it's delivered.
There are some seriosly nice bows being built this year. Here are a couple of pictures of what I hope will be my trade bow.

This bow is a bamboo/walnut tri lam with a walnut riser. The second pic. hopefully shows the grain in the riser. It came from a pretty nice piece of wood. I don't know how that other thing got into my picture.  ;)
Hopefully, this one doesn't blow up.
Dave.

Beautiful full draw bend on that bow Kenny. Real sweet!
There are some really nice bows being made for this trade. Glad I'm part of it.

You may want to try boiling the tips for 30-40 min then bending, worked for me on my recent hickory bow. Then it dried for a week before going back at it. I tried dry heat before with a heat gun & oil and heard a crack as well, thats why i switched to boiling.

I've experienced cracking with dry heat as well and this last one I tried steaming and walla...perfect results! I'm never going back to dry heat for recurving. This was on hickory BTW.

Holy smokes.  I go outta town for a few days (I only left on Friday), and it takes me the better part of an hour to get caught up.  I found myself wondering if I had missed pd's shipment and glad that Kenny hadn't shipped yet so I could be home when it shows up!  And then some of these other ones taking shape are just as cool or cooler.

I just can't believe the progress this year.  And the rate at which the thread is growing.  How many pages were we at by the 1st of February last year?

Kelly, I sure hope so. I already blew one up.  :banghead:
I roughed out the grip and arrow pass this evening. and now I need to get a string for it. I'm praying like crazy that this one makes it.
The bar is set really high now. There are so many great bows.

Dang I hate to hear about the bows breaking.  I put my number 2 in the form a little bit ago.  I hope to goodness that it comes out better than the last did.  Wait til tomorrow and see what happens.  Now that I think about it I think I'm going to go check it.  I probably won't get any sleep tonight worring about it after the first one was only worthy of going in the fire.  Wood Carver I like the looks of it so far.
