My wifes Yew Bow is Finished
« on: January 13, 2012, 01:02:00 AM »
Bow #7 is the Yew bow I built for my wife Lena. It is 63” 30@28 and a sweet little shooter. Lena liked the finish I put on my last bow (Chittamwood) so that what this one got. Again I used the almost black poplar for the tips. The grip is a nice piece of Leather stitched with sinew. I used a piece of bone for the rest and slipped it under the leather. The string silencers are alpaca wool. I really enjoyed this Yew. It is a dream to work and really makes a pretty bow. The stave was deflexed to begin with and I tried a little heat to add some reflex but after shooting a hundred or so arrows it took about one inch of set. Now I just have to teach Lena how to shoot….  Thanks for all the help!!

Thanks guys  :)

This is the first time she has ever drawn a bow so we will work on her shooting form. Lena got more pleasure out of smelling the bow (she said it smell like new furniture, Argggg!!) I think than the thought of shooting it  :)

I wish Yew was easier to come by and not so expensive to buy. I really liked working with it....

My wife draws like a girl too. I'm not even sure how she gets it drawn all the way with her wrist bent at 90 degrees. Weird.

Your can really see your bowyer skills developing. Each bow you post is getting better and better looking. Maybe its just the person drawing though.   :biglaugh:

Nice looking bow.

DVSHUNTER, that's about the best thing a guy can hear....  I hope to get much better with time. Someday maybe I'll be as good at this thing as some of you folks... and yea she makes a much better full draw model than me, form or no form  :)
