"SOME FANCY PURPLE WOOD"
« on: February 04, 2012, 06:18:00 PM »
"Maybe with some pink thrown in there."
Thats what I was asked to make. So now I am
Looking for a block of the fanciest purple heart I can find..

Any ideas for some pink wood be good but I am leaning toward some white accents.

Any ideas or wood offers are welcome. Pm me with what you got.
This is for my Kiddo so I will do it up special for her.

thanks,

If you have a source that carries Pink Ivory you might find what you want without having to color or stain another type of wood.

Purple heart with white accent lines would be as girly as it gets Chuck. Would purple heart make a decent veneer? Must be nice having a dad with a full blown bow shop in the backyard....lucky girl!

+1 on that! Would you adopt me? I'd sweep your shop for ya at least twice a week.......Dad.   :goldtooth:

Maybe pink actionwood and I am sure I've seen it before, just can't remember where? Rosewood has a purplish tint to it also, but no pink that I can remember. I've got a few small chunks left of rosewood that I use for tip overlays cause it's hard as heck.

Hey, She is only on her forth bow in just 9yrs of life. I stuck her in the tub tonight and told her I had to keep moving so I didn't fall asleep(head cold) and she said " I know what you can do,build me a purple bow" Whats a Dad to do??

Purple heart would not be my first choice for a veneer but I know  of a few bows with it and one set some flight records. That bow had solid PH lams.
You can get away with alot in a kids bow though, everything gets to be so thin that it is just about a couple of veneers with some glass. I even thin the glass down before glue up.

Dave, I like the looks of that Ivory,I just wonder how long it stays pink? Any idea?

Here is a bow Bradford built for my daughter it has some pink heart on the tips. But the first one he tried had some in the riser.
There is the link to the build and some pics for you.

Sorry, I have no experience with pink ivory. I looked it up in one of my wood books. There are pictures of some turnings that look pretty nice in it. It's definitely lighter in color than purpleheart and might make some nice accents for a riser. Even if it darkens, it will likely stay lighter than purpleheart. I know it's expensive and usually sold by the pound and I've never heard of it being used for veneers.
Sorry I can't be more helpful.
Dave.

Pink Ivory holds its color a long time. Purple heart will turn brown over the years unless you have a good ultraviolet light protective coating.
