what are the usual thicknesses of venners under clear glass. not taking the place of your parallel for long bow limb thickness.

about 1/42" I have seen .020 to .030 and that is what I use

I use .030 unless the veneer is also a good limb wood, then I may go thicker.

I grind to .020,but try to convince customers to not go under that. They get real hard to handle with glue on em if too thin.

Listen to Kenny. I had some .020 flat grain zebra wood veneers once. Beautiful stuff but when I applied the epoxy these things curled up like 3' potato chips. It was a booger to get them laid down and glued up. Thicker ones will behave better for ya.

being new at this, do you count the thickness of a veneer in your total limb thickness.

Yes, total stack includes all veneers,glass, tapers and parallels. I sometimes use a powerlam, I do not include the short power lams in my stack height. I do use a thinner stack height, about 005 for my recurve..others may have different results

Bodork, your zebrawood curled up..that would cause panic for me, glad you got it worked out. I got to where I have a spare riser, airhose and veneers nearby in case something happens at glue up..spare parts may not match (color) but they will make a bow. I know of a guy who dropped his riser after applying smooth on, end of fade broke off..i think he quickly sanded it back to shape.
