Luke's turn for a build - DONE!!!
« on: March 11, 2012, 01:44:00 PM »
My oldest son, Luke, has helped out on the last several bows that I've built so it's his turn to build one (with a little help). He's always liked red, orange, and yellow so we looked over some of my bows and some bows here on tradgang and he chose cocobolo (Thanks Kenny) with a yellow heart accent.  Here are some pictures from this morning.
-Jay

The riser materials were laid out and we mixed the smooth on.

The next step was getting everything glued up.

Everything got clamped up and it's now in the oven.

Fantastic to see young fellows taking their first steps into the world of traditional archery. Great job.

Be sure to keep that coco dust collected! I've developed an allergic reaction to it, my eyes turn red , Actually around them and on my cheeks just under eyes.

Looks like heck! Only noticed it this year.
Stay sharp, Kenny.

Thanks guys, we'll keep you posted on our progress.  Thanks for the advice Kenny. It's kind of scary that if can just come on after all your years of working with it.

You kin call me flower if yant to, but I'm serious bout the coco dust.

A young feller might be more allergic to it than a crusty old phart like you.

Here are a few updates after the glue up.  The first picture is checking things out after being in the oven.

The clamps were removed and the excess glue was removed on the sander.  The next step we taped the wood and marked our center.

After this we traced our template on the riser block.

Then it was out to the garage to start cuting out our riser.

Wayne - The small cans are the smooth on, it's a two part epoxy.  They get mixed in equal amounts in another can for use in glueing up the riser and limbs.
