Here's a picture to keep you motivated till the hunt starts.
The snow is melting and the elk are headed back to the edge of the timber. This bull will be a bit bigger and should just about make a guys heart come outta his chest when he comes screaming in.

You must be way over eastside. There's still 4ft. of snow in parts of central Oregon. I always look forward to heading out of the valley and joining up with my friend in Burns and head out to hunt elk! Thanks for the picture...gives me something to dream about.

Still plenty of snow just up the hill from here Snag. The wind clears this open stuff and fills the draws, the elk can get to the grass down in the open stuff.
This is another shot of the same group, a few rag horns & spikes in the bunch. Nice to see the number of calves that made spring, bout half should be spikes.
I took this shot with the pickup moving so they didn't spook, a little blurred up close.

It' getting close to when the Bio's do the spring counts. Should know soon what impact our works having.
Here's a bull that died of natural causes this winter, he belongs to the people of Oregon and will be used as a display.

Next time we hunt together I want to go to this new place... of course anywhere with a nice fire in the wall tent, nestled into a snow bank sounds good to me.

:D I've been thinking bout the same thing Charlie. Course it was fun watching CK get aclimated to the white stuff, but I'd just as soon do without it
Where we were before is rumoured to have the wolves now, just hate competeing.
It was a shock finding a bull this big dead, it's not a area known for 350 class bulls. Kinda nice knowing one can die naturally though.
Hope your making sawdust in that shop

Robin,
Nice pictures and that was a real nice bull. We had lots of them like that around my place before the wolves. You Oregonians might want to consider sending your newly arrived guests back to the other side of the river.
Oh ya, when you decide to retire, let me know, I want your job. :D

The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.
