Damn! Cant work photo bucket out. Was going to post a build along for lam grinder using portable belt sander but being a senior member of the human race am not terribly savvy with IT.

Hey Bob, put your cursor(arra) on the pic you want in your p bucket account, a screen should drop down. The arra is now a finger on mine.

 Select the one that says IMG Code at bottom of list.

Move finger to box on right and clik, it will then say copied. Done there.

This is where it it starts. a makita belt sander with a blown motor stripped down ready for the process.

The driving wheel  on the left will have that section outside it cut back to allow free access to the curve of the wheel.

this is the spa pump motor i picked up fairly cheap online. It is .8hp and the pulley off sander fits straight on the end of its output shaft.

The table top just sits within an angle iron frame and is 1 1/2'' ply. It doesnt need to be that thickness, but I sourced it cheaply at a salvage yard.Under each corner is a small wedge that I use to keep the face of the driving wheel true to the table top. It seldom moves at all even though i check it each time.

The sander body is bolted to the 2'' x 6'' steel box section using the bolt holes that normally attach the body to the motor section.

The cut out which is needed to access the belt should have a drop in section to prevent all the dust falling through onto the pump motor.

This shows the set up with the motor mounted beneath the table. It has sliding bolt mounts to allow for belt tensioning.

It is true and square to the vertical although the photo distorts this a little.

All done and working. sorry its not a better shot. Although many might look and think how primitive it might seem , i can assure you it is accurate to within .0002 and has done close to a dozen bows without any problem at all. I use 40 grit and while its not a system that allows one to punch the lams out rapid fire, it is adequate for what I need. i hope this is of use to some here and gets people making their own cheap lam grinder.I sourced all the steel and ply from salvage yards etc, as I am only on a pension and money is tight. The biggest outlay was about $70 for the spa pump motor.One would need to check the output shaft diameter is compatible with the pulley from the sander.

Forgot. The block of wood in shot is the actual fence and I grind at right angles to the driving wheel. Looks primitive as I said but results speak for them selves.

Just thought I'd mention looks can be deceiving as I have ground belly lam veneers to .0035 with a tolerance of .0001 -.0002 and use it to 'face' all riser components for fitup.Cant see any reason for outlaying big money and still getting something not much more efficent than this ol' girl.
