Wildest Rocky Mtn. Recurve ever!!! (Finally finished)

Some of you may remember I built one of my versions of the Rocky Mtn. Recurve earlier this year.

Well earlier this week I started a new one.

I think this will be the wildest version of this bow you will ever see.

The riser is Hondurous (sp) Rosewood and Birdseye Maple. The limbs have Flaming Ambrosia Maple veneers and A-boo core.

I had picked up a shed Red Deer antler a few years ago while hog hunting in TX. and thought it would make for great accents on the riser and limbs.

I'll be adding it to the limbs in due time. Right now the limbs havn't even been tapered at the tips.

I'm hoping for 57-58# at 29"

I've got my antler pieces already cut and ground for the limb bolt pads and well as tips.

I think this is going to be the wildest looking bow I've ever built.

Did the rough out on the limbs this morning. Tiller was a breeze, less than 30 minutes. Looks like it's going to come out a little under the weight I had hoped for. Still have final sanding to do on the limbs and right now they are pulling 55#@ 29". If I can squeek by with as little sanding as possible I'll still be happy with the weight.

I glued the overlays on the limbs and have them in a nice warm place. I should have the riser shaped and sanded by later this evening. I'll post pics of the riser tonight.

It was a hot one today, but I managed to get the riser shaped and sanded to prefection.

 

I really like the character in this piece of Rosewood.

 

 

 

I even managed to get the first coat of epoxy sealent on. Looks like it's going to take several coats to fill he grain. Still not a problem as far as I'm concerned.

what are the specs on your bow? riser length, limb length, stack thickness? I have a form I got from a guy based on the rocky mountain recurve. I'm trying to gather some info for future bows. Thanks for any info.

Yes, I only cut the window to center. With the narrow riser of the RMR design cutting past center is risky in my book.

Here are afew more pics. I dressed the tips and limb bolt pads. The Red Stag antler really adds to the limbs.

I also got to shoot it for the first time today. It pulls smooth and really cast and arrow with authority.

Still have several coats of epoxy sealer to put on before spraying with Fullerplast.

I like to fill all the pores then spray. Gives the bow a smooth finish.
