Figured out this morning why the bow came out a little lighter in weight than I had wanted.

Guess I can't add any more.

When figuring the total stack thickness I messed up and came up with a higher number than it really was. That and the glass I bought was advertised as .043 thickness and after checking one of the drop pieces the thickness was really .040

That was the real killer. Take off .006" per limb and the weight will be off.

Still the bow shoots great and has enough weight to take care of anything I'll hunt around here.

Did the final sanding on the bow's sealent finish this morning. Looks like I have all the pores filled and it's smooth as I can ask for.

After that I stippled the grip. Normally I stipple before starting to apply sealent, but this time I'm trying something different due to the sealent filling in around the stippling. I'll apply a couple coats of sealent to the stippling then spray.

I also applied sealent inside the limb bolt holes and alienment pin holes. Havn't seen many folks talk about doing this. I do it on all my bows. I don't trust that the spray will make it all the way in and do it's job. Can't chance getting caught in a heavy downpour and having moisture get into the limbs from unsealed spots.

I'll be spraying with the Fullerplast one day this week.

Afterwards I'll post pics of the finished bow.

I think overtightening bolts gets blamed for splitting limbs when this is actually possibly the culprit.

I started doing this several years ago. After a week long hunt in rain and bitter cold I had problems. It would warn up enough during the day to rain instead of snow, but at night it would drop into the upper teens.

After returning home I noticed a hair line crack in one wedge. Can't say for sure if the swelling was due to the moisture or if it was from freezing at night.

Anyway, since then when I build a bow I take a Q-tip and rub atleast two coats of epoxy sealent (Massey Finish) in the holes. Since then I've not had any problem.

Me too, cheap insurance, I even put some wax in the holes and on the pins before shipping. Hopefully between the finish and wax the hole will be water tite. I think adding a little wax to the holes and pins every once in awhile is good idea, they get some wear to the finish with normal use taking apart and putting together.

Finally got a few minutes this morning to knock off the high gloss from the Fullerplast and set the bow up for shooting. After about 25 shots I'm finding it really like my 800gr arrows. A little more tuning and I'll be ready to shoot, shoot and shoot some more to get ready for hunting season.

I have been thinking about giving that a try. how did you like doing it?

Chuck,

Stippling is easy. Just use a Dremel with a ball end bit. I've stippled the grip on every bow I've built for the past year.

My next trick is to learn how to checker a grip. Been checking into it and found that the tools needed to do it isn't as pricy as I first thought.
