Bow #2, sort of finished. Advice for a new bowyer?
« on: July 07, 2012, 01:26:00 PM »
Hello,

Well I finished my second bow. Red Oak ala Sam Harper. I still need to size down the tips and shape the handle a bit more. Aside from those items, it is finished.
Any advice would be helpful. Thank you for your help Tradgang.com friends!

That tiller looks great.

Mighty fine tiller job. If you round your handle front and back you will have a much better looking bow.

Thanks gentlemen. The tillering job was mostly due to the great explanation on Sam's web site and Eric's tillering gizmo. A great combo.

I just finished rounding the bow handle. It looks much better and feels better in the hand. Which is nice. Thanks Eric.

Do you all have any advice for my next project? Woods? Backing? Length etc.?

I have been reading the Bowyer Bible Vol. 1.

This bow making has been fun! A great test in patience, a virtue I often lack.

Thanks again for your advice.

Tiller looks great. You could possibly shorten up your limb tips to reduce some dead weight, maybe pick up a few fps.
