limb tip overlay material
« on: July 13, 2012, 09:14:00 PM »
Would maple or poplar be a decent choice for a limp tip overlay on a BBH longbow ?
What other wood choices would work.

I've used poplar(Home Depot)on several bows and it worked well for me...  never used maple but I think it's harder than poplar....

I think maple would be a good choice, it is harder and more dense than poplar, as well as more attractive imho.

i wouldnt use poplar at all except for arrows. poplar is the softest of the hardwoods. it dings easy . i know ive built several pieces of furniture from poplar , dropped a small component and ding . a mark you cant sand out. rv

Some of the hickory would work well. I like very hard wood for overlays .

Just about anything will work. Most tip overlays are just cosmetic anyway.
