A charity auction bow....
« on: July 17, 2012, 08:15:00 PM »
My Bro-in-law and Sister-in-law  put on an auction  for Children's Mercy Hosp. in KC every year at Lake of The Ozarks, since their grandbaby had to go there and was treated so well.

I always try to give a little something.  Here is this years candidate.....

Char Awood riser with 3/8" total thick phenolic i-beam and set in limb pockets...

Actionboo limb core with anglecut charcoal awood  belly veneers...

And anglecut charcoal awood  belly veneers with an arrow inlaid. Bloodwood point, selfnocked red elm shaft, spalted hackberry fletch..

Stay sharp, Kenny.

And the money shot, hope it brings a little bit for the CMH, another good cause!!  If you're at the lake and wanna bid on her, let me know and I'll get directions .

Or I might talk the wife into buying it for you if you aren't close...   :D
Stay sharp, Kenny.

Thanks guys!!

The arrow shaft was easy, set the blank down on the tablesaw blade, then flipped it over and repeated to get centered. Took a couple goes to get right width, a router table woulda made it a cakewalk!

The fletching and head I cut in the lam blank with a scrollsaw and  fitted the wood pieces in in with a sander after roughing in with a bandsaw.

The fletches weren't too hard, but on the head, I'm wondering if you could put a pc of tape on one side and pour epoxy mixed with food coloring in to get a tighter fit? Wonder what the epoxy would do when cut and ground?

you make it sound easy! guess one would have to make really sure the lay up was really centered and keeping it centered after marking out and cutting out to shape.Gotta router table , have to try before long, guess I can only stuff up a lam at worst.
