Finished carp-backed bow!
« on: July 30, 2012, 10:21:00 AM »
I finished my carp-backed cherry selfbow this past week!  Overall I’m pleased…I have another post floating around somewhere with lessons learned.  Looking forward to backing a second bow (HHB)…just need to harvest one more carp!  I put the word out at the local tackle shops that I’m looking for some northern pike skins…I would love to give them a try!

Thanks for everyone’s help answering my earlier questions!

Awesome! Very nice tiller and love those skins! I agree pike might look nice too, hate to think of all the pike skins I've wasted over the years, maybe i'll have to try it someday.

Thanks guys!  It was a great learning experience!  In keeping with the fish theme, I was going to use a carp bone for the arrow rest but I could find the bone I wanted...I had a right (fin ?) bone but needed the left (fin ?) to sit properly on my handle.  I also wanted to use the gill plate for tip overlays, but being thin and slighly concave, I bailed on the idea.

Dino,
What do you think of the cherry. i have a bunch of staves from one that came down last year and am working on a few of them. What are the dimentions of the bow and what did you learn about the wood.
Bow looks awesome but you better catch that little rascal or you will never get to shoot it.  :)
