I shipped two bows FROM Canada this year. The post office has size restrictions, I think it's length plus diameter cannot exceed 2 meters.
I also received two bows from the US and there were no problems. If you are not insuring it, don't declare any value or the recipient will be taxed on it.
There's always the chance of damage, but I just package them really well and hope for the best.
Don't know how I got here and don't know where i'm going, but life is grand.

Thank you, pretty much what I found,on the,USPS site.
Just wanted to make sure there were no hidden restrictions on length.

Bad advice on not declaring a value . This may very well result in it being at customs for a very long time and a value accesed at what they feel is apropriate, which might be higher than your real value, or it may be seized..
Declare the proper value, and let the receicer pay his tax. Customs are not stupid, so make the value realistic. Declaring a "gift" instead of a proper value often does not fly.
Use the  USPS to mail it, don't use a courier. they have huge brokerage fees at the receivers end up here.
Share your knowledge and ideas.

Just shipped one last month, was told to declare actual sale price or if gifting fair market value. Insurance a must since international first class has no tracking or conformation number, you will have a receipt from customs and shipping label number.
A 68" 3 inch thin wall pvc with bow (9lb)with packing, customs charge, postage, insurance 84 bucks.
