Bamboo backed take down?
« on: August 24, 2012, 07:01:00 AM »
Has any one every made a bamboo backed take down bow using a glue up form and bolting the limbs to a riser?

I am not sure, looks like maybe no one has made one.  But I am looking into it

I've seen several but never made one.  Are you asking if it would work?  If so, then the answer is yes.

Don't know the specs though.
Take a kid hunting!

Yes John, that is what I am asking, and how the limbs were attached to the bow as well????  Bolted from the back side?  Or a hole drilled through the limbs like a glass take down?

Charlie, I believe Marc St Louis on PA made one a few years ago.

I've made one.  It worked but my boo ended up lifting a splinter on the bottom limb.  Grinded it off glued another one and then the top lifted one.  So got pretty mad at it and ordered glass.  I think I had my limb wedge too long.
I've seen one on here too.  Thats where I got the idea.  I had the link to it saved in my email but evidentelly I deleted it.

And I drilled mine through the top like glass.  I was worried about how it would set on the rounded top of the boo but it set pretty well.  I snugged it down pretty well and it didn't dig into the rind but I didn't get to shoot mine a whole lot either.

This is the only pic I have of it and I don't think it helps with any of your questions.  You can't see a whole lot on the pic but on the top limb mid-limb its kind of hingy.  Thats where it lifted the splinter.  But it was my poor design more than the bamboos fault.  Some of you might recgonize the riser.  Its the one that I built the glass limbs for.
