Barge cement and Snakeskins

I know current wisdom says use Titebond for snakeskins but why.  I've heard of and seen horror stories of skins coming up (even with the work of some of the best known skinners around)with Titebond and Elmers.  I've never had leather come unglued using Barge & what is snakeskin but leather.  

Just want to see if someone has had problems with Barge before I try it on my own bow.

Barge will work just fine. You had better get it right the first time because with contact cement you only get one shot. I have never had snake skins come up from a bow limb using TB glues or any carpenters glue(Elmers, etc). Mind you I have only put snake skins on wood bows but I wouldn't hesitate to use TB glue on one of my glass bows if I decided to do it.
  With carpenters glue you have at least an hour to work with the skins after glue up to get them lined up and to remove air pockets and excess glue. With Barge you get one shot. If something isn't right it will be difficult to repair.

I used Titebond on several glass bows and have never had a problem with them lifting.

I have done a couple glass bows with Barge cement but will not use it again for that purpose. If you do use it make sure you thin it and give it plenty of tack time before putting skins on. TB3 is what I use now.

Centering the pattern on your limbs makes the difference between a professional looking skin job and an amateurish hack job.

I will spend at least ten minutes per limb, adjusting, looking at the skins on the bow from different angles, working air bubbles and excess glue out from under the skins and getting them just right.

I'm not good enough to get everything just right on my first attempt as would be necessary with barge cement.
