This is my first post on this section of the forum. Robin Severe (RoughCountry) suggested I post it. He and I have been talking for some time about the tools he and his father made and he uses now. Draw knives are something he and I are interested in since he uses one often and I do occasionally, but love making things. It turns out that the education department where I work was needing some draw knives so I thought I'd try it. This picture is of one that I forged from a spring drop. It started off 3/8 thick X 2 1/2 inch X 2 1/2. So it was a square 3/8 inch thick. It was fun forging it
. I'm fortunate to have access to some historically correct tools that are made for forging such items.
I and a co worker (Andy) should conspire to get it finished tomorrow. He'll turn the handles and I'll do the hot work. I have it heat treated and the handles forged down now and should get some more cell phone shots of it as we go. It is an interesting project and I thought you might want to see.
