Hi, I'm David
« on: September 29, 2012, 10:20:00 PM »
Hello, I've been lurking on this site for a while but I usually post over on the ***********. I'm 18 and will be graduating from high school this year, then off to the military and after that's done I'm getting my degree in Forestry. I started building bows in November of last year and I've been hooked ever since. Technically I've only finished 1 bow so far which is a red oak board bow but I'm always whittling a different stave or board...And I've made several miniatures  :D

I live just east of Springfield, MO. Maybe I can get in contact with a local self bowyer If yer not too sketchy  ;)  Anyway just thought I should introduce myself if I was going to post here any more or use the classifieds.

Thanks macbow, maybe I can meet you if I head up to MOJam this year. I almost bought some ipe and bamboo but passed it up because I was afraid of having an alergic reaction. I'll be getting into fiberglass bows after Christmas when my shop teacher lets us make what we want. I've talked to Mike Paeyatt from Rosewood Archery about getting my supplies. He's down here in Halltown.

Welcome to the addiction. I'm always at mojam. Were you there this past year?

No, I've never been to mojam before. Marshall is a good drive from Springfield. Hopefully I can get a vehicle and drive up this year with a few friends and split money for gas   ;)

Here's my next project, a twisted, snakey, knotted persimmon stave.

Hopefully I did this right...

David, I wish I had been able to get started in this when I was 18! You're headed in the right direction.

Good luck with you tour in the military. You should read KellyG's thread from the Middle East. He made an osage selfbow while stationed there. (Did an outstanding job, too!)

Welcome and good luck!
