Does anybody use a template to cut string groves when building a recurve?  Got any pictures?

Never used a template, have measured the dimensions onto some of my bows and then cut them ... usualyl I just do it freehand using my files to gauge the distance from the tip (i.e. 1 file width from the tip on the back to 1.5 file widths on the belly side).

Maybe it would work well to just make a little hardwood jig ... or even out of some phenolic scraps or something.

I cut a 45 angle onto a paper template and use it. Quick, easy and always laying around.

I just saw somewhere that some one did make a little wood jig that they slide the tips into and then use it to guide the file at the right angle.  It was a very simple jig, I'll see if I can remember where it was and post it.

Here is one, you can also file one groove how you like it, and lay another file in the groove under the limb and keep the grooves lined up that way..
