Shelf material

New to the sport
 I have two recurve bows to put into use to try to learn the sport with.
One very well made older bow of 55lb. unknown age or maker has a flat shelf. It looks like something was there at one time.
 A new 45lb. bow called a Red Stag by Samick has a curved shelf. There is no material to rest the arrow on ether one. What should be there and what glue is used?

Velcro is a good arrow rest material. Or thin leather, or you can buy stick on rests. Double face tape works well, Barge Cement is good. The different shelf shapes are just the Bowyers design.

The older bows used a flat shelf and the newer bows use a curved shelf, that way the arrow is only on a small part of the shelf and arrow flight is not effected as much.  A lot of guys use a wood match under the arrow rest and on the flat riser and that way the arrow is not on the entire rest.  For the rest you can use stiff part of velcro and cut it to shape so it covers the bottom and a portion of the inside of the window.  You can also get calf hair rests ready made from the mail order houses if their is not a sop in your area

the flat one might have came with a feather rest or flipper type rest. alot of guys use the fuzzy side of velcro for a rest, it's cheap easy to find and works.. january 2012 I bought a piece of adhesive backed thin leather from 3rivers and it is much tougher than the velcro..
