Finally found the time to start with the riser. I will use cocobolo with an osage accent stripe in it. His twin I'm going to use for another bow for a friend...

Then it's time for glue up...

Got my test bow done and shot it in properly in the woods today.   :)   It was 58 and sunny, and boy did it feel great!  I need to take some pics and post it.  I've got the "real deal" (hickory) fully tillered and ready for the scallops and heating/reflexing.

Today while eating lunch the doorbell rang I figured it was another kid coming to se if our kids could play.  My told me it was the mail lady.   I excitedly ran to the door to see her holding a box.   I tried to finish eating my Tuna salad but couldn't.  I just had to tear into the box.

I am the lucky recipient of master craftsman Mike Tenley.  We all know him as Brushwolf.  I received a three piece static tip (a real hooker) recurve.  Pictures don't this bow any justice.  The wolf print perfectly centered wolf print in the stippled grip is magnificent.  The bamboo and glass accented cores make a buttery smooth draw.  The riser appears to be Macassar ebony and zebra woods with alternating accent strips.    The ebony veneers are stunning and just pop when in the sun.  The tips are nice and small the way I like them.   This is one beautiful bow and best of all it's very very quiet.   I was only able to shoot a few times before we had to go to kids soccer games.  I was very impressed with this bow and is a lights out hard hitting bow.  I will be hunting with this bow this fall.

I shot a CX heritage 250 with 100 grain brass insert and 145 tip for a total of 605 grain.  11.2 gpp arrow and the first shot was 182.  Thank you Mike for such an amazing bow.  It's a blessing to be such a part of the bench and all it's fellas.

First shot 15 yards.

Close up of the grip.

Fast enough for me.

Beautiful bows and craftsmanship on all the bows in the swap. I will definitely have to get in on the swap next year. Awesome work to all of you and can't wait to see what is yet to come in this thread.

Came home just now to find the postman coming back down our road (he drops at my house first.)  As I pulled into the driveway, he pulled in behind me.  Dang!  He must have a package that needed a signature!  I was thinking about some of the bows that were out for delivery and started to salivate.  It's already been a great day, it's just getting better.  Turns out he had put my neighbor's mail in my box and was turning around to correct the problem.  He asked if I was waiting for a bow or something.  I hadn't mentioned anything and haven't received a bow for months.  Guess he could see it in my eyes.

Good news is that I've managed to get all my parts machined for a new bow press and lam grinder.  Better news is that I got my shop as clean as it's been in years (if ever) in order to have a little room to work this year.

Bad news is that I told my wife I entered the swap again this year.  While I got to sleep in my own bed last night, I did have to promise to build my daughter's dresser before I work on any bow.  Uhg.

Good news is that my bow class with Dave Miller is still on for the end of May.  (I sent a deposit in so she couldn't change her mind.) If I don't get the swap bow done before then, at least my recipient will stand a better chance of getting a better bow AFTER someone tries to teach me what I'm supposed to be doing....

Glad she made there in one piece.    :)   I never got around to shooting it through a chronograph so it's nice knowing how fast she is. You're right it's made of macasser and zebra. Hope you make lots of memories with her.
