Thanks! It's my first attempt at a molle, I hope it turns out good enough to use in the swap. I am thinking I might stain it with an ebony stain and try to inlay a partial leather handle/floppy rest.

Wow, looks like lots of people are off to a great start with their bows!  As soon as I wrap up my trapping season in a couple weeks, I'm going to start rasping away.  I have a couple wood options for a selfbow all seasoned and ready to go - elm, hop hornbeam, hickory.

My son Colton and I caught the beaver below this past weekend...it’s currently in 1st place for largest (60#)...the winner gets to donate a $300 cash prize to their charity of choice (kind of cool).  Earlier this season I completed an ash bow with a beaver tail handle wrap - made as a "thank you" gift for a friend (pict of bow and recipient below but hard to see handle wrap)...worked out great but a bit tedious (or should I say "tendon'ious") to flesh out.  My trade bow will hopefully have this guys tail wrapped around the handle as well as some fur on the string for silencers.  I thought it would be cool to make a bow called "The Beaver Stick" and use a small wood carver on the bow back and tips to give the appearance of beaver chew marks...and of course use the tail, and some fur on the bow.

Good luck on your bow projects!
Dino

Hey Dino I've only skined one beaver tail and holy crap was that thing oily.  I couldn't get a grip on anything after I got it on my hands.  I amazed me how much oil came out of the inside of it.  They sure do look good on a bow though.

psychmonky,

The only problem is you have to make everyone a bow that is why I have not already done that. I have trouble enough making just one bow for the swap.

Kip I wish I had your dilemma.

Beaver I may have to get a fur bearers permit for here in KS I see at least a half dozen every year while deer hunting.

My supplies from Kenny for my swap bow arrived today.  Gray angle cut actionwood lams, gray action riser block.  I'm gonna put some contrasting paduak and osage in the riser.  Not sure when I'll get a chance to start on it.

Some great looking bows already started!

Who in the hell would want a bow made from gray angle cut actionwood and a gray riser? Didn't Kenny have any good colors? Send it back...

Roy, I was at his shop back at Thanksgiving and he had some real pretty wood of all kinds but I didn't see any of his pink wood.  Wonder where it all went?  :dunno:

Boy howdy Kenny.  I forgot about that one.  You may need to send out a recall notice on it and send it to Arkansas.  Roy prolly don't shoot it too good anyways since it has glass in it.

You better watch where you put that bow down. That gray ghost would just disappear in the woods.

Well Roy, since you didn't get in the swap this year, you won't have to worry about it coming to you.

David, ya did see that green door in the back of Kennys shop? The one under lock and chain? Well that's where he stores the purty pink stuff:)

Ok McKenzie, I have a bow that looks like that one. Ands I love it.... Good deal Johnny Boy, hope your swap bow makes someone very happy. And for the record, I requested the gray angle cut actionwood and gray riser from Mr. McKenzie.
